May 2012 be loaded with incredible new discoveries and amazing adventures.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Merry Christmas everyone! It is the time when the year draws to a close and we think about all of our achievements, adventures and actions for the past 12 months. It leaves us wondering if we did eveything we could possibly have done as well as we could have done it. Did we get everything out of 2011 that it had to offer and more importantly did we put everything into 2011 that we could have?

Inevitably this time of year leaves us asking questions and leaves us looking for inspiration. You've found it right here! Find all the motivation you need to get out there and do something at the 2012 festival. Are you ready for your dose of inspiration?!

Merry Christmas Banff Community!!

The Adventurous Origins of Tour Partner- Sea to Summit

On October 3, 1984, Tim Macartney-Snape, along with climbing partner Greg Mortimer, became the first climber from the flat and arid continent of Australia to reach the summit of Mount Everest. They reached the summit, without oxygen or Sherpa support, via a new route on the North Face.

Realising his opportunity to re-write the history books, in the Spring of 1999 Tim Macartney-Snape went for a swim in the tepid waters of India’s Bay of Bengal, and then set off on foot across the Indo-Gangetic plain toward the distant Himalayan foothills on an endeavour to become the first person to truly climb the entire 8848 meters of Mt Everest. Four months later, after climbing alone from Base Camp and without the assistance of oxygen, he once again set foot on the highest point on earth. Dubbed the "Sea to Summit" expedition, Tim wrote about his epic adventure in his book "Everest: From Sea to Summit". A film of the same name has won prizes in seven countries. Tim has also made first ascents of other great peaks including Annapurna 2 and Gasherbrum IV.

Nowadays, Tim is a director of the outdoor equipment company "Sea to Summit", which prides itself on manufacturing innovative outdoor adventure gear inspired through experience.

For the past 15 years, the Banff Mountain Photography Competition has been privileged to showcase some of the finest images in mountain photography. In these few short years the technology of photography has evolved very quickly – Kodachrome is gone and now everyone (almost) is shooting digital.

The Banff Mountain Photography Competition is looking for your best mountain images – we invite you to send your mountain stories in the form of photographic essays. The style and content of these essays will be determined only by the skill and creativity of photographers themselves. The basic form of the essays is that they should consist of no more than seven images, and that they follow this year’s theme of MOUNTAIN EXPLORATION AND ADVENTURE.

The best photo essay (2-7 images) will recieve $3000 Prize (Canadian dollars). The Banff Mountain Photography Competition is run through the Banff Centre, Canada.

Banff Mountain Film Festival goes off with a bang in Canada! Brilliant films!

The 35th annual Banff Mountain Film Festival  happened earlier this month in, well- Banff Canada!  The festival really is an amazing who’s who of incredible film makers, phenomenal athletes and famous adventurers who ascend on the festival to celebrate mountain culture. It's impossible not to be a at least a little star struck not only the big names presenting films or speaking at workshops but by who you inevitably find yourself sitting next to in the theatre!

Every year the festival honours the courage and  determination of the world's best filmakers, writers and photographers  who risk life and limb to capture the footage, images and stories that make the festival what it is. Truly unique and inspirational!

There was an unbelievable line up of films at Banff this year which makes our selection process for the UK Tour really hard but a heap of fun (somebody has to do it right!?).

Films for the UK Tour will be announced soon. Don’t hold off buying tickets though. They're selling quickly!
